Red Bridge Brewery in Knysna is now under new management. Knysna locals Chantal and Karel Bruwer and Jacques de Winter bought the nanobrewery when they learnt that Red Bridge founder, Darren Berry was closing to emigrate to New Zealand. "When we heard, we thought there is no way Red Bridge Brewing Co can close down, Knysna needs a craft brewery!" says Chantal. “We also thought it was fate as our surname happens to be Bruwer." Red Bridge’s brewer, Cameron Rigby, stays on and the team will continue with the original recipes, at least in the short term. A brewery upgrade is on the cards, as well as some improvements to the tap room. Look out for the launch party in early September. RED BRIDGE CHANGES HANDS The Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) has officially launched, after many months of planning. The organisation includes representation from SAB, Heineken SA and CBASA (Craft Beer Association of South Africa) and seeks to both push beer culture in South Africa and to provide a united voice in order to address issues affecting the beer industry. At the official launch, held at Mad Giant Brewery on August 21, BASA announced their support for a number of initiatives, including taking the reins on #LetUsBuyBeer, promoting the Brewing the Republic documentary, establishing official beer routes, supporting members in positioning beer as a drink of moderation and helping to further push South African National Beer Day.
