White Anvil and Maleficent both won silver medals, while Mjölnir IPA and Bookoo each took a bronze. This year’s medals will be particularly cherished since Anvil’s founder, Theo de Beer, has since retired. Fancy having a bash at winning in the world’s most prestigious beer competition? Registration for the 2020 World Beer Cup opens on October 29. You can enter at worldbeercup.org until November 13. Beers will be judged in Texas in April 2020. Devil’s Peak has entered the low calorie beer market with Devil’s Peak LITE (4% ABV). Launched in August, the lager contains fewer than 90 calories per 330ml bottle and will be available nationwide on tap as well as in bottles. The Cape Town brewery has also recently rereleased their King’s Blockhouse IPA. The tweaked recipe is double dry-hopped with Cryo hops, with the next batch to be sold unfiltered. Banana Jam Café will be celebrating its 20th birthday on November 30. The Caribbean restaurant became one of the first places to serve craft beer back in 2007 and is now celebrated as one of South Africa’s top craft beer destinations. To celebrate two decades in the business, there will be a birthday beer on tap (alongside 30 or so other brews), dishes from the original menu and perhaps some tunes from 1999.
