In August, BASA met with DTIC officials to share industry perspectives, align on priorities, and explore opportunities for collaboration. The discussion highlighted BASA’s role in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and responsible beer sector, with a focus on: • Policy Advocacy – ensuring legislation supports a fair and balanced beer industry. • Illicit Trade – tackling unregulated alcohol to protect consumers and revenue. • Harm Reduction – promoting responsible drinking and social awareness. • SMME Development – supporting small and emerging brewers to drive inclusive growth. The engagement marked the beginning of a structured relationship with the DTIC’s Export Department and National Liquor Authority, paving the way for future discussions on establishing export markets for local manufactures, licensing, compliance, and industry transformation. BASA’s CEO emphasized: “Collaboration with government ensures the beer industry can create jobs, support township economies, and drive responsible growth. Together, we can tackle illicit trade while building a sustainable industry for the future.” BASA ENGAGES WITH THE DTIC STRENGTHENING INDUSTRY GOVERNMENT RELATIONS:
