Then you’ll want to get your hands on the latest limited release from Afro Caribbean, described by owner Greg Casey as “a crisp and sessionable sour ale, not too tart with hints of vanilla”. Oh, and have your phone handy, because you will want to Instagram this beer… Barrington’s Burchell’s Nitro Stout (4.5% ABV) Plett based Barrington’s have launched a delectable nitro-pour stout. With notes of dark chocolate and coffee, the beer is available in cans as well as on tap at the brewery. Jump Brewing Extra Hoppy Lager (4.9% ABV) The second release from Jump Brewing is a hop-packed pale lager. Brewed at Devil’s Peak, the brew benefitted from an unintended extended lagering period due to production slowing during the latest alcohol ban. Clockwork Brewhouse Citrus Berliner Weisse (4.5% ABV) The first version of this Berliner Weisse with orange peel was such a hit, brewer- owner Megan has decided to make it a permanent part of the range. Darling Bonecrusher Xero (0.5% ABV) The latest addition to Darling’s non-alcoholic range is a 0.5% version of their popular Bone Crusher witbier. REDROCK BOUGHT OUT BY KINGSLEY BEVERAGES – REPORT Johannesburg based RedRock Brewing Company has been bought by soft drinks producer Kingsley Beverages, according to sources. The brewery, with an annual capacity of 112,000 HL, advertised their sale in April of last year. Kingsley produces cool drinks, vitamin water, energy drinks, ice tea and bottled water but this will be their first foray into brewing. The pandemic and associated lockdowns and alcohol bans continue to have a negative impact on South Africa’s craft breweries, with a number of breweries advertising their sale. These include Stash Breweries in Sasolburg, Route 62 Brewing Company in Montagu, Mainstream Brewing in Johannesburg, Ceres Brewery in Ceres, Thorny Creek Brewery in Oudtshoorn and Robertson Brewery in George. BREWERIES FOR SALE The latest brewery to launch a loyalty scheme is Johannesburg based Brewster’s Craft. Brewsters Stokvel offers four levels of membership ranging from R1000 to R4000.
