Olga is a research scientist at the Central University of Technology (CUT) and studies microbial genetics in the food production environment. She has a PhD in Biochemistry and is the event coordinator of Intervarsitybrew the Brewing & Tasting Challenge hosted for university students every year in Bloemfontein. Olga de Smidt Craig started his journey in beer as a homebrewer in a London bedsit in 2004. He is a partner at Neelsie Travel and it was in 2017 that he fused his passion for tourism and craft beer to create the Beer Route, an organisation set up to promote craft beer tourism in South Africa. Craig was recently appointed Chairperson of the Craft Brewers Association South Africa (CBASA). He is also the co-founder of Lunar Brew and current Chairperson of the Helderberg Homebrew Club. Craig Claassen WINTER 2025 Lotte is a Certified Cicerone, accredited Beer Sommelier, international beer judge and beer writer who conducts talks and tastings about American craft beer, organises events and is a keen advocate of beer and food pairing. She co-authored her first book ‘World’s Greatest Beers’, published by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the UK in August 2022. She is the Brewers Association’s American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe and a member of CAMRA’s London tasting panel. Lotte Peplow Jonny is a multi-award-winning author, journalist, filmmaker and podcaster. He’s best known as the cofounder of the Craft Beer Channel, a Youtube channel with over 160,000 subscribers and 13 million views. As well as travelling the world making films he has written four books including A Year in Beer (2021, CAMRA Books) and The Meaning of Beer (2024, Atlantic). Jonny Garrett Brian has managed a leading craft beer outlet in the Westrand of Johannesburg for over 10 years. He is also a BJCP judge who regularly does the beer reviews for On Tap, or for his Instagram page @brians_hobbies. He has judged in multiple African Beer Cup events and many local events. If Brian isn't selling craft beer out of his store, he enjoys spending time with his family or watching Liverpool play football. Brian Leopold Greg has had an interest in beer from back when it was still just called beer. He opened Banana Jam in 1999, added craft beer to the menu in 2007 and opened Afro Caribbean Brewing Co. in 2015. He spends his time embodying his hashtag #surfbeertravel. Greg Casey Marcel is a beer geek who’s been brewing for over a decade and still gets things wrong. He teaches brewing, writes, and spends more money on beer than is wise.
