Heineken®, in collaboration with Sonic State, Matthew Edwards, Deji Dada and Ngwenya Glass is thrilled to unveil the innovative Heineken® Waste To Wear project. This groundbreaking initiative has transformed and recycled 800kg of discarded Heineken® non-returnable glass bottles into unique wearable art and stylish home décor, showcasing our cool take on sustainability and creative recycling. The Heineken® Waste To Wear adventure started by collecting used Heineken® bottles from local townships and transforming them into the fashionable Glass’wear and Home collections. Partnering with Ngwenya Glass, known for their stunning recycled glass products, the team embarked on a glass recycling journey to a more sustainable future. With the theme ‘Fields Green With Grass, Not Glass,’ this campaign spotlights the importance of glass recycling. It aligns with Heineken’s® new returnable 650ml Star bottle, underscoring the brand’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. Heineken® Glass’wear: The Heineken® Waste to Wear collection includes 3 000 medallions and 3 000 glass rings. These gender-neutral, versatile accessories redefine the lifecycle of the previously non-returnable 650ml Heineken®bottle, making a bold statement about environmental consciousness and innovative design. The home collection is a project extension which turns beer bottle waste into functional and artistic home décor, highlighting Heineken’s® commitment to reducing landfill waste while fostering creativity. The showstopper of the collection, the Hops Light, features 45-50 handcrafted glass petals. This light symbolises the journey from bottle to beacon of sustainability, emphasising the importance of recycling and upcycling. Heineken® Waste To Wear has not only repurposed 800kg of discarded previously non-returnable bottles but also set a new trend in sustainability initiatives. This project is a testament to our commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and the transformative power of design.
