An additional style added to The Cape Collective Beer Range, this "Peechy" Pale Ale consists of a duo of select hops, Azacca and Amarillo, crafting tangerine, peach and mango typhoons of flavour with a trace of light bitterness. Brewed with spring mountain water at Saggy Stone Brewing Company, the beer is well-balanced and characters follow through from the nose. It is pale amber to medium copper in color, with a low to moderate white to off-white head (the style has very little head retention due to low carbonation). This beer will have you coming back for more! The next beer style to be launched is the Cape Collective Session IPA. The Braggot Lager is a crafted blend of selected honey, malted grain and oats, and brewed to deliver a crisp and refreshing lager-style Braggot. One would expect a sweeter finish, instead one is faced with a medium to high bitterness, although not one that is overly harsh. The malt may suggest an impression of sweetness but the beer should not be literally sweet according to style. The finish may be dry but not seem crisp or biting. The balance should always be bitter. Clarity is good to brilliant, although many Braggots are not as clear as other meads. A light to moderate head with some retention is expected if the mead is carbonated, which this one is. It’s a beer to be consumed occasionally, and it pairs well with heavy, fatty red meat and spicy or BBQ foods. CAPE COLLECTIVE CAPE TOWN MEADERY PALE ALE 4.5% ABV. BRAGGOT LAGER 4.5% ABV. Alcoholic Honey Beer Beverage 3.6 3.1 I've known Rory Lancellas from Aegir Project for close to seven years now, and during this time I have heard from him and others how he craves the ocean and being out on his surfboard. It makes sense for such a talented brewer and surfer to blend his two passions into a beer and "Back to the Beech" is a shining example of this. I would love to say I taste the ocean in this beer, but I can taste the wood shavings from a surfboard, and I enjoy how they give a fuller-bodied mouthfeel to this drink and make it slightly richer on the palate. Malt-rich flavours with hints of toasted bread notes give this a very pleasurable experience for the tastebuds and have this drink going down like a treat. This is a good take on the beer style with a unique twist that makes it more enjoyable–and it's a great beer for any occasion, including warming you up after a solid surf! AEGIR PROJECT BACK TO THE BEECH 5% ABV. Bock beer with beech wood shavings 3.9 Nick Smith of Soul Barrel has done a phenomenal job when it comes to his beers, especially of late with "Live Culture Grand Cru” winning the 2022 African Beer Cup Gold. You might then expect something special when drinking a beer from this brewery, tucked away in Franschoek, and the Super Power did not disappoint. "Hoppy" is a term that comes first to my mind, but with a tropical fruit bomb that explodes my olfactory senses initially with the likes of melon and papaya, but then bringing on grapefruit citrus notes and pine. An exceptionally smooth and soft flavour followed for the palate, with very minimal alcohol warmth which I found to be somewhat remarkable given the level of ABV in this drink. If you are a hop-head then this beer would likely be right up your alley and should be found in your fridge. Get one quick before they are sold out!
