On Tap is South Africa’s first dedicated beer publication - a quarterly magazine aimed at craft brewers, homebrewers, beer fanatics and those just beginning to dip their proverbial toe into the mash tun. The views expressed in individual articles are the personal views of the authors and are not necessarily shared by the editor, the advertisers or the publisher. No articles may be reproduced in any way without the written consent of the publisher. As a catalyst for self-expression, Ganesh helps people take their stories, knowledge and messages and project themselves powerfully to the world. He is a branding coach, writer, book coach and editor, and voiceover artiste. He lives in Bangalore, India. You can read more about him on www.ganeshv.com. In his first piece for On Tap he takes us on a tour of India’s craft beer scene – check it out on page 48. Ganesh Vancheeswaran Laura records stories of the communities, producers and history of beer. Her first book, '50 Years of CAMRA' was released in March 2021. She also runs a creative agency for small businesses called Thirst Media which supports a number of breweries, vineyards and pubs. In honour of Women’s Month, Laura chatted to some of the world’s leading women in beer – read the piece on page 24 and check out more of Laura’s work at thirstmedia.co.uk . Laura Hadland Jacques’ path in the craft beer industry started when he began homebrewing while completing his MSc in Wine Biotechnology in 2018. He pursued fermentation as a primary interest and started working for Anchor Yeast and Lallemand Brewing in 2019. He loves the extraordinary variety available in craft beer, evaluating every moment of sensation, from pouring to the last sip. On page 44 he delves into the topic of yeast breeding. Jacques Janse van Rensburg Megan and Dion started homebrewing in 2009 and 2011 respectively and met when they were both involved in the creation of East Coast Brewers, a Durban based homebrewers club. Their brewing paths joined, they went commercial in 2014 with Clockwork Brewhouse and Doctrine Brewing and haven’t looked back since. Megan loves everything microbiology and beer-related while Dion enjoys thinking of new ways to combine flavours he feels are missing in the local craft beer scene. Megan Gemmell and Dion van Huyssteen Shortly after beginning home brewing in 2011, Carl realised that beer was something special. He and four friends founded their own microbrewery in 2014, and Carl continues making beers to this day under the 400 Brewing Co. name. He is our Beerginner’s Guide columnist and in this issue he offers some clarity on the topic of glassware. Carl Nienaber 6 | Winter 2022 | ontapmag.co.za
