We were prevented from an official Fools and Fans get together in 2020 because of COVID regulations, but we were able to host a sneaky “not Fools” last year (2021) which was below the radar. This year ‘FOOLS AND FANS 5” (F&F5) was expanded to cover two days: On Friday 1 April, homebrewers from around the country offered their beers for tasting and the inaugural national inter-club championship also took place. The Helderberg Club won the prize for the best English IPA, while Greg Harrowsmith won the best individual prize for his stunning British bitter. The next day saw 25 commercial brewers selling their beers together with a special festival brew. What a day. What great beers. Fools feels like it is slowly taking its place on the national beer festival calendar. It will always be more intimate than the others perhaps, but we strive to make it all about the beer.
