From The Editor E very year on 8 March, brewers around the world mark International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day. Each year has a di erent theme, with this year’s chosen theme being ‘Celebrate’. Women of South Africa’s beer industry joined together on the day to create three unique brews, all of which will be released on National Women’s Day in August – a true celebration of the female spirit. ere has been a lot to celebrate recently. Beer festivals have started up again, with both Fools & Fans and Clarens recently held in their respective towns. e Craft Brewers Powwow also rebooted following a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus – if you missed it, you can check out some of what happened on page 66. One of the biggest beer celebrations so far this year was the third edition of the African Beer Cup. Obviously this has a great personal signi cance to me since I co-founded the competition with my husband, but it’s more than that. e awards evening is one of my favourite nights of the year. Seeing the industry unite and celebrate each other’s successes; the hugs, the smiles, the tears (always the happy sort) – it just reminds me why I love this industry so much. You can read about all the winners on page 16, but this issue is full of winners and reasons to celebrate. ere are new brands to seek out and new beers from old favourites, there are festivals and special events to look forward to and wonderful women both local and international to celebrate. And on page 55 you’ll nd the story of South Africa’s longest running homebrew shop, which celebrates an incredible 70 years in business in 2022. So charge your glass with a pint of your favourite and join us this winter as we celebrate South African beer in all its fabulous forms. Something to celebrate Cheers!
