She is the founder of www.brewmistress.co.za and writes for numerous international beer publications. Lucy started South African National Beer Day in 2016 and co-founded the African Beer Cup with her husband, Shawn, in 2018. She is Africa’s first Advanced Cicerone and runs a range of workshops and training courses on all things beer related. Lucy Corne Megan Gemmell, a Microbiology Master's graduate, found her passion for brewing 15 years ago. She went from homebrewing to then taking the leap to owning and brewing for her own brand, Clockwork Brewhouse. She's a recognizedBJCP judge andalsomentors thebrewing course at the 1000 Hills Chef School. She has alsowonmultiple awards for her brews over the years. Megan Gemmell Craig started his journey in beer as a homebrewer in a London bedsit in 2004. He is a partner at Neelsie Travel and it was in 2017 that he fused his passion for tourism and craft beer to create the Beer Route, an organisationsetuptopromotecraftbeertourisminSouthAfrica.CraigwasrecentlyappointedChairperson of theCraft BrewersAssociationSouthAfrica (CBASA). Craig Claassen SUMMER 2025 Lotte is a Certified Cicerone, accredited Beer Sommelier, international beer judge and beer writer who conducts talks and tastings about American craft beer, organises events and is a keen advocate of beer and food pairing. She co-authored her first book ‘World’s Greatest Beers’, published by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the UK in August 2022. She is the Brewers Association’s American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe and a member of CAMRA’s London tasting panel. Lotte Peplow Andrew (“Andy”) is passionate craft beer drinker and the founder of Mother City Beer Project, a homebrew club. He is also joint competitions director at Fools & Fans Festival, an aspiring BJCP judge and founder of the All Ladies Homebrew Competition. He often struggles with not getting distracted by beer stuff, and actually getting some work done! He is best known as the co-founder of Capital Craft Beer Academy, Capital Craft Beer Festival and Easy Agency. Capital Craft is widely regarded as cornerstones of Gauteng’s craft beer culture. A passionate entrepreneur, Johan has helpedgrowthe local sceneby creatingplatforms that connectbrewers, enthusiasts, andnewcomersalike. Johan Auriacombe A brewer, engineer, and entrepreneur, Nick has spent the past decade designing and building award- winning breweries across Africa and beyond. As founder of Drifter Brewing Company and Drifter BrewingSystems, he’smade a name for himself withoffbeat experiments—fromoyster goses andbug beers to ocean-aged Tripels sunk beneath the Atlantic. Nick now leads East Africa’s fastest-growing seltzer brand, JipJab. Nick continues to blur the lines between science, art, and adventure in brewing. Nick Bush Marcel is a beer geek who’s been brewing for over a decade and still gets things wrong. He teaches brewing, writes, and spendsmoremoney on beer than is wise. Marcel Harper Dion’s brewing career began at age five as “child labour” on his father’s homebrew bottling line. Today, he’s a certified BJCP judge and the founder of Doctrine Brewing. He thrives at the intersection of art and science, using a decade of experience to craft beers that leave a lasting impression. Dion Van Huyssteen Khensani is a BSc Honours graduate and Intervarsitybrew TM alumni who fell in love with the science of brewingbeer duringher studies atWits University. Fuelledby childhood influence, science, andpassion, she’s currently a brewer in training at Brewsters Academy and hopes to one day become a Master Brewer and a recognised beer judge. Khensani Mothomogolo A BJCP National judge and the BJCP African representative, Chris has been involved with the Intervarsitybrew TM competition since its inception and has organised the judging since 2009. He is also a past chairman of theWort Hogs Brewing Club. Chris Roth Will is the owner and brewer at Featherstone Brewery, as well as an avid homebrewer and certified BJCP judge. With many years of experience in product marketing within the telecoms industry, he brings a unique blend of product thinking and creative passion to brewing.
