It is an excellent introduction to how beer is made and packaged, designed to help you in the early stages of your brewing career. The Foundation in Brewing defines beer and beer styles and provides a detailed overview of the raw materials used to make them. Each step of the brewing process from raw material intake to packaging is explained in clear and simple terms with numerous illustrations and interactive learning tools. Approximately 40 hours. Over a 6-month period, it is recommended you spend at least 2 hours a week studying the learning material. £385 / R8,797 General Certificate in Brewing Those who already have experience of working in brewing operations such as team leaders, team members, or brewers in smaller companies. If you already have an awareness of the steps in the brewing process, the GCB can enable you to perform better in your role to beer of the highest quality. The General Certificate in Brewing covers the entire brewing process, along with other areas vital to brewing operations such as quality and environmental impact. It introduces the science and best practice of raw materials, wort production, fermentation, maturation and beer finishing. Approximately 80 hours. Over a 6-month period, it is recommended you spend at least 4 hours a week studying the learning material. £539 / R12,316 Diploma in Brewing This qualification will benefit anyone wanting to excel in a senior operations management or technical brewer role in a larger brewing company. It is also perfect for anyone in or aspiring to be head brewer of a smaller brewery. The Diploma in Brewing is a degree level course that covers the entire brewing process from raw material specification and selection to ensuring the beer is perfectly prepared for packaging. It also covers hygiene, the management of quality and the process engineering used in breweries. Approximately 120 hours per module. Over an 8-month period, it is recommended you study at least 4 hours a week per module. £589 / R13,459 per module Master Brewer People who have already completed the Diploma in Brewing and have at least 5 year’s managerial experience in breweries. The qualification is split into three modules. You must pass each module’s exam to attain the Diploma in Brewing qualification. Approximately 150 hours per module.
