THAT BREWING AND ROBSONS JOIN FORCES Durban-based That Brewing Company has moved its kettles and fermenters to share brewing space with Robsons Real Beer at their premises at Durban Point. That Brewing closed their taproom at the start of the pandemic, but continued brewing from their north Durban location. The two breweries will retain their beers and branding, but will brew in the collaborative space, with two of That Brewing’s beers on tap at the restaurant. The official launch takes place on 10 December. 2022 NATIONAL HOMEBREW CHAMPS WINNERS ANNOUNCED The winners of the South African National Homebrew champs were announced on 26 November, with Jo’burg brewer Trevor Van Der Schyff taking the top spot for the second year in a row. The brewery’s latest barrel-aged release, Bad Rainbows Go To Prism, took a gold medal as well as the grand prix. This is the first time a beer has won the grand prix, which is awarded to a label that gained exceptional feedback and scores across all judging criteria. The imperial stout’s striking design – with a holographic rainbow and multi-coloured waxed cap – was created by Carvel, a small tattoo studio also based in Noordhoek. Just Brewing Company took a silver medal for their can range, designed by Minit Print Hatfield, while Smack Republic won bronze for their label range, designed in-house. The annual competition, which also awards exceptional design for wine and spirits labels, is organised by Winemag and sponsored by Rotolabel.
