T here was no question of who we would be profiling in this issue of the mag. Trevor van der Schyff dominated at the 2021 South African National Homebrew Champs, not only taking the top spot in the overall competition with his imperial stout, but also winning the low-alcohol category and placing third overall with his American light lager. OT: How did it feel to find out your beers had done so well? TV: This year was my first year entering the Nationals and I really entered to get some anonymous feedback on my beers as Covid has seriously hampered my ability to taste and smell properly. On the day of the results announcement I was having issues with Facebook thanks to loadshedding and couldn’t tune in to the results. Shortly thereafter my friends were sending me messages of congratulations and my phone was going crazy. I didn’t realise at first what was going on until I eventually got things working again and managed to watch the replay and oh boy, when I found out both beers did so well I was floored. I could not believe what I was hearing!
