CLONES ATTACK OF THE MARCEL HARPER W e figured you might have a little extra time on your hands through the summer holidays and so our festive gift to you in these pages is three homebrew versions of some truly excellent South African beers. Big beery love to the three pro brewers who agreed to share their deepest, darkest brewing secrets: Niall Cook from Richmond Hill Brewing Company in Port Elizabeth, Mike Agar from Agar's Brewery in Johannesburg, and Nick Smith from Soul Barrel Brewing Company in Franschhoek. Of course you’ll never create the perfect clone, since a brewery’s water, equipment, techniques and of course yeast will differ wildly from what you’re brewing on (or with) at home, but give these recipes a go, buy the pro versions and taste them side by side to see how close you can get.
