OnTap Magazine

MASH OUT We recommend that you read your latest issue of On Tap with a cold beer in hand (well, except for those of you that apparently like to read it on the loo) but we’re wondering what time of day you allow yourself that first beer, so we want to know: LAUREN COHEN Communications consultant & mountain bike enthusiast, Johannesburg It's beer o'clock as soon as your morning ride is over! Well on weekends anyway. On weekdays it’s best to wait until the last work email has been sent… VERONICA PITTENDRIGH Operations Manager, Banana Jam Cafe, Cape Town I have an odd rule: on weekdays I may not consume alcohol until I have drunk two litres of water. Weekends I am an adult and will drink beer when I want. If I'm Ubering to a beer fest you bet I'm having a breakfast beer but generally not before 12… PATRICK BAUWENS Head Brewer at 8 Sail Brewery, Lincolnshire, UK I’d say you can crack that first beer at absolutely any time, day or night, when you’re at an international airport - or on a plane, of course! WARREN EADES Partner at Stumpnose and Jabula Brew Co., Kloof It largely has to do with how tasty the beer you’re closest to is… On a weekday I’ll open the gate from 4pm and on the weekends we’re good from noon, although 2pm is more advisable if there’s something planned in the evening. Fridays in Durbs are regarded as the weekend! BRIAN LEOPOLD Manager of Radiokop Tops at Spar and On Tap contributor For me it’s generally as soon as I get home from work, so depending on the day of the week, it’s either 3.30pm or 8.30pm. Luckily I finish early on Mondays so at least the first beer o’clock of the week arrives early! TANAH DANKERT KRUGER General Manager at Poison City Brewing, Cape Town Depends on the occasion for me. If it’s a weekday I try to keep it to 4pm, although a sneaky 3pm does occasionally happen. If it’s the weekend and there is sport on it’s when the first whistle blows (even if that’s 9am). If I’m on holiday then beer o'clock is any time of the day. TRACEY CLEARY Sales rep and general beer enthusiast, Cape Town Due to working hours, beer o’clock tends to only arrive after 7.30pm, Monday to Friday. I try to not drink on a Monday. And on weekends I tend to not have a restricted starting time, due to the fact that I am limited during the week. WHAT TIME ISBEERO’CLOCK? 64 | Spring 2022 | ontapmag.co.za
