This time around, nine local breweries will be showcasing their brews and there will be plenty of food, music and fun. Tickets R100. Celebrate Heritage Day the way it should be celebrated – sharing a few sips of homebrewed sorghum beer. Gauteng homebrewers have been challenged to try their hand at umqombothi in a special competition judged by a handful of sorghum beer experts. You can taste their brews as well as Brewster’s sorghum lager collab with Ukhamba Beerworks which will launch on the day. The Co-op team have been busy brewing a few special beers for their Oktoberfest celebration. Local vendors will be selling German specialities and of course there will be an Oompah band, so grab your dirndl and lederhosen and join the festivities! Tickets R50. It’s the first T58 Oktoberfest, run in conjunction with the local Round Table. Taste the new Munich lager on tap, pair it with some German cuisine and listen to music from local bands and DJs. If you fancy taking a break from booze before the silly season kicks off, check out SA’s first “mindful drinking” event. The fest features alcohol-free beers, wines and spirits, kombuchas and health drinks with some healthy eats and live music thrown in for good measure. Tickets R100. EVENTS CALENDAR 13 & 14 Ostara Feast Celebrating the arrival of spring, Ostara includes a range of food and beer events over the course of two days. Tickets start at R120 for the tartlet and beer pairing and go up to R400 for the three-course “Viking-inspired” dinner. Broers Brew, Rawsonville 29 Nov - 01 Dec 01 - 03 Cape Town Festival of Beer Africa Brew It’s the 10th anniversary of Cape Town’s biggest beer festival, so you can guarantee a fine three-day party. As well as a couple of hundred beers to choose from, there will be pop-up restaurants, DJs, live bands, comedians and on Sunday an epic kids’ play area. Tickets R150. The fourth instalment of this three- day brewer get together features technical talks, a brew-along, homebrew competition and plenty of chance for networking and tasting. Tickets R250.
