OnTap Magazine

Letter from the Editor I t would be impossible to bring out this edition without the slightest of nods to 30 years of democracy in South Africa. Before the next edition, we will have an idea of the outcome of this very important election, where all South Africans get to express themselves at the polls and make their voices heard about their economic hardships, about their desires for a brighter future for the nation’s children, and for the future of South African trailblazing. ere is a sense that anything is possible. In all the industries I nd myself, this belief is nowhere more evident than in the beer industry. It is with that in mind, that in this edition we feature articles about trailblazers who are taking decisive steps to bring craft beer to St Helena, not without the help of the vibrant South African beer industry. We read about the mission to invest beer pro ts into growing South African limes and creating jobs in areas often left behind. From the West Bank, a tale of hope and of the usual can- do craft beer attitude on how to overcome the odds. For the pro brewers, we o er some technical guides on how to future- proof your craft beer production with an in-depth look at the global practices of clari cation. From the USA, we read about how fruit can be added to beers to reach out to a whole new type of beer drinker. And for the hobbyist and craft beer enthusiast, we follow, Byron, as he takes the plunge into his rst batch of homebrewed beer. I have said it in all my previous letters, but I reiterate that to bring out a magazine like this, we rely on the amazing contributors for their expert views. A massive thank you to the team, the advertisers, the contributors, but also you, the reader. We hope you like what we have put together for you in this Autumn 2024 Edition. Prost!
