Jordi Borrut In August 2021, HEINEKEN South Africa announced the appointment of Jordi Borrut as the brewer’s new Managing Director. Borrut succeeded Gerrit Van Loo, who took early retirement from the business. Van Loo was instrumental in keeping the company on a growth path through a tumultuous time for the liquor industry, while facing numerous operational challenges as a result of the global pandemic and national lockdowns. Borrut has previously headed up Nigerian Breweries Plc as their Managing Director. Under his leadership, the HEINEKEN subsidiary became a growth engine for the international beer maker on the African continent. He has also previously held the position of General Manager of Brarudi S.A., one of the largest brewers and soft beverage companies in the Republic of Burundi. Millicent Maroga, Corporate Affairs Director HEINEKEN South Africa, has shared that she enjoys working with Jordi. “We are using this opportunity to tap into all his capabilities, experience and leadership,” says Maroga. “He has a great understanding of the industry and the business, having racked up more than 13 years of experience within HEINEKEN globally, in various roles such as On Trade Sales and Distribution Director (Spain), Amstel Brand Manager (France), and Distribution Project Manager in Slovakia.” Amongst other qualifications, Borrut holds an MBA from the ESADE Business School. “With HEINEKEN being a major player in the beer space, I am excited at the opportunity of being admitted on to the board of BASA. I look forward to working together as an industry to address challenges, support one another and enhance the overall perception of our favourite, historically significant beverage - beer” said Jordi Borrut. Richard Rivett-Carnac South African Breweries (SAB) proudly announced the start of an exciting new future for our country’s largest brewer, with the appointment of Richard Rivett-Carnac to the position of CEO for SAB in January 2022.  Richard has 13 years of experience in various roles within the AB InBev group. He joined SABMiller in the London office as part of the mergers and acquisitions team in 2009 and more recently held the position of Vice-President for Finance, Legal and Corporate Affairs for AB InBev’s Africa Zone, successfully navigating the business through what could be considered some of the most challenging years since its inception.  Having already assumed his responsibilities, Richard says he is committed to work with government, suppliers and all stakeholders to responsibly grow the beer category in South Africa. Rivett-Carnac has shared that the last few years have shown just how strong the SAB brand can be, as an organisation and as a collection of hard-working, passionate and talented people. “Having grown up in South Africa this business has been an integral part of my life and I couldn’t be prouder to lead the team into an exciting new future for SAB and the South African economy,” says Rivett-Carnac.  Holding a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town, he is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. As a beer man, Rivett-Carnac says that he has worked his entire career to get to this point. “This is a profound responsibility, and I will ensure that our people, our industry, our communities and our country remain my top priority as we move into what I believe will be SAB’s greatest decade,” he says. The Beer Association of South Africa believes that under the leadership of Jordi Borrut and Richard Rivett-Carnac, HEINEKEN South Africa and SAB will help empower the organisation to reach new goals and heights. We look forward to working with both their teams, as we continue to grow our local beer economy and the over 400 000 livelihoods it supports in South Africa. This month, the Beer Association of South Africa is proud to introduce our readers to two new additions to our board, namely Jordi Borrut, the new Managing Director of HEINEKEN South Africa and Richard Rivett-Carnac, the recently appointed new CEO of South African Breweries (SAB).
