Brewhogs Microbrewery, based in Kyalami, Johannesburg has released a new, old beer. The recently released Heritage Lager comes with a backstory that few local brews can boast. “Our story starts in 1984 in Burton-On-Trent, UK – the home of great English beer, but also the birthplace of our 30-hectolitre brewery,” says Brewhogs brewer Michael Biljon.
The brewhouse was built in Burton-On-Trent and then commissioned by South African Breweries at the Heritage Brewery in Gold Reef City in 1985. SAB operated the Heritage Brewery and pub from 1985 to 1992, brewing Barney’s Draught for Barney’s Tavern at Gold Reef City.
